“It is not about whether this is going to work, it is HOW we are going to
make this work together.”
Macy is a Clinical Psychologist dedicated to providing evidence-based psychological care in an empathic manner for people living with emotional difficulties or facing life adversities. She works collaboratively and flexibly with her clients to achieve optimal and meaningful treatment outcomes. She believes in the importance of enhancing clients’ resilience in addition to addressing their difficulties so as to truly empower them. She has expertise in working with clients to resolve a diverse range of emotional challenges including but not limited to anxiety (e.g., phobias, social anxiety, generalised anxiety, panic disorder, health anxiety, OCD, PTSD, selective mutism), depression, bipolar disorder, behavioural problems, body-focused repetitive behaviours (e.g., skin-picking, hair-pulling), self-harm, interpersonal difficulties, sleeping difficulties, and stress management (e.g., academic, occupational, health, family).
Her predominant approach to assessment and therapy is Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which she complements with other approaches including mindfulness, aspects of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for more chronic and complex conditions, and family-based parent management interventions for child anxiety and conduct issues.
Macy has clinical experience in various settings, including hospitals (the Kiloh Centre, a psychiatric unit at the Prince of Wales Hospital and Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit and Department of Psychology at Gosford Hospital) and private practices, servicing client populations from children to older adults with diverse needs.
Macy is trained as a clinical practitioner as well as a scientific researcher through over eight years of tertiary education at the University of New South Wales. She holds a Bachelor of Psychology degree with First Class Honours and was awarded the University Medal. She completed PhD and Master of Psychology (Clinical) degrees, during which she conducted and published research in the field of behavioural neuroscience that extended current understanding and treatment of anxiety. She holds full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (Reg. #: PSY0001389847 – Registered as Wan Yee Macy Chan) with endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist. She is also approved by the Psychology Board of Australia to act as a supervisor to provisional psychologists and psychology registrars. Macy is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
Macy is only currently providing Telehealth (phone or video) consultations.
Red. But you wouldn’t have guessed,
as I rarely wear anything red.
Most of my clients who are interested in Psychology,
or are at the crossroad of choosing their areas of
study or careers would have heard the long story.
The short story is that I’ve always been fascinated
with the power of words and connection in
influencing people. I feel privileged to be using this
‘special power’ to make the world just that little bit
much better every day. I’m also excited to witness
how my clients flourish and use their ‘powers’ to
better themselves and those around them. Amazing
ripple effect!
I love singing! Although I didn’t
become a singer, I sometimes sing
at work, especially to engage the
little ones. My young audience
usually gives me very positive
reactions (Phew…Thank
goodness!), and they sometimes
teach me a song or two.
